The world's nuclear fleet in 1982
In 1982, 276 nuclear reactors were operating in 26 countries, 158.9 GWe net, with 195 under construction.
Compared with 1981, the operating fleet grew by 8 reactors. 19 reactors were connected to the grid that year, 16,224 MWe, mostly in United States (4), Canada (3) and Belgium (2). 2 units were permanently shut down, 210 MWe. Brazil and Hungary connected their first nuclear reactor in 1982. The countries with the most operating capacity were United States (59,791 MWe), France (19,597 MWe) and Japan (16,562 MWe).
