In 2000, 456 nuclear reactors were operating in 35 countries, 362.3 GWe net, with 38 under construction.
Compared with 1999, the operating fleet grew by 5 reactors. 6 reactors were connected to the grid that year, 3,208 MWe, mostly in India (3), Brazil (1) and Czech Republic (1). 3 units were permanently shut down, 1,395 MWe. The countries with the most operating capacity were United States (103,810 MWe), France (60,318 MWe) and Japan (43,487 MWe).
