The world's nuclear fleet in 1980

In 1980, 244 nuclear reactors were operating in 26 countries, 130.6 GWe net, with 200 under construction.

Compared with 1979, the operating fleet grew by 12 reactors. 21 reactors were connected to the grid that year, 15,857 MWe, mostly in France (7), Finland (2) and Russia (2). 1 unit was permanently shut down, 39 MWe. The countries with the most operating capacity were United States (54,361 MWe), Japan (14,428 MWe) and France (12,367 MWe).
