The world's nuclear fleet in 1999

In 1999, 451 nuclear reactors were operating in 35 countries, 359.2 GWe net, with 39 under construction.

The operating fleet was the same size as in 1998. 4 reactors were connected to the grid that year, 2,735 MWe, mostly in France (1), India (1) and Slovakia (1). 2 units were permanently shut down, 652 MWe. The countries with the most operating capacity were United States (103,810 MWe), France (57,318 MWe) and Japan (43,487 MWe).
