The world's nuclear fleet in 2004

In 2004, 456 nuclear reactors were operating in 35 countries, 374.4 GWe net, with 30 under construction.

Compared with 2003, the operating fleet shrank by 3 reactors. 5 reactors were connected to the grid that year, 4,798 MWe, mostly in Ukraine (2), China (1) and Japan (1). 5 units were permanently shut down, 1,389 MWe. The countries with the most operating capacity were United States (103,810 MWe), France (63,308 MWe) and Japan (44,135 MWe).
