The world's nuclear fleet in 1976
In 1976, 186 nuclear reactors were operating in 21 countries, 79.7 GWe net, with 191 under construction.
Compared with 1975, the operating fleet grew by 12 reactors. 19 reactors were connected to the grid that year, 14,581 MWe, mostly in United States (8), Germany (3) and United Kingdom (3). 2 units were permanently shut down, 75 MWe. Armenia connected its first nuclear reactor in 1976. The countries with the most operating capacity were United States (41,620 MWe), Japan (7,049 MWe) and United Kingdom (5,719 MWe).
