The world's nuclear fleet in 1976
In 1976, 179 nuclear reactors were operating in 19 countries, 79 GWe net, with 190 under construction. 6 of those units are not included in the net capacity because no net figure has been published for them.
Compared with 1975, the operating fleet grew by 10 reactors. 19 reactors were connected to the grid that year, 14,581 MWe, mostly in United States (8), Germany (3) and United Kingdom (3). 3 units were permanently shut down, 85 MWe. Armenia connected its first nuclear reactor in 1976. The countries with the most operating capacity were United States (41,592 MWe), Japan (7,049 MWe) and United Kingdom (5,689 MWe).
