The world's nuclear fleet in 1971
In 1971, 104 nuclear reactors were operating in 16 countries, 21.6 GWe net, with 134 under construction.
Compared with 1970, the operating fleet grew by 10 reactors. 16 reactors were connected to the grid that year, 7,809 MWe, mostly in Canada (3), United States (3) and Switzerland (2). 1 unit was permanently shut down, 27 MWe. Pakistan connected its first nuclear reactor in 1971. The countries with the most operating capacity were United States (8,958 MWe), United Kingdom (4,025 MWe) and France (1,926 MWe).
