The world's nuclear fleet in 1969
In 1969, 87 nuclear reactors were operating in 16 countries, 12 GWe net, with 99 under construction.
Compared with 1968, the operating fleet grew by 11 reactors. 9 reactors were connected to the grid that year, 3,523 MWe, mostly in United States (3), India (2) and France (1). 1 unit was permanently shut down, 6 MWe. India connected its first nuclear reactor in 1969. The countries with the most operating capacity were United Kingdom (3,535 MWe), United States (3,219 MWe) and France (1,461 MWe).
