Compared with 1963, the operating fleet grew by 9 reactors. 8 reactors were connected to the grid that year, 1,186 MWe, mostly in Russia (3), Italy (2) and United Kingdom (2). 1 unit was permanently shut down, 75 MWe. Sweden connected its first nuclear reactor in 1964. The countries with the most operating capacity were United Kingdom (1,279 MWe), United States (874 MWe) and Russia (738 MWe).
