VVER-1200
The Generation III+ VVER: 3,200 MWt, about 1,100 MWe net, a 60-year design life, a core catcher and passive systems. It is the reactor Rosatom exports.
The VVER-1200 is the unit of the standardized AES-2006 plant, the evolution of the VVER-1000 with which Rosatom meets Generation III+ requirements. It keeps the family traits, four loops with horizontal steam generators and hexagonal fuel assemblies, and adds a double containment, a core catcher under the vessel (filled with non-metallic material that dilutes and cools the corium) and passive heat-removal systems that work without electricity. The design life is 60 years and the refueling cycle can be stretched to 24 months.
There are two variants: the V-392M, about 1,199 MWe gross and 1,114 net, which started up at Novovoronezh II-1 in 2016, and the V-491, 1,170 MWe gross and 1,085 net, which did so at Leningrad II-1 in 2018. Both produce 3,200 MWt. Those reference plants are the basis of the export VVER-1200s: Ostrovets in Belarus, Akkuyu in Turkey, Rooppur in Bangladesh, El Dabaa in Egypt and Paks II in Hungary.
