KLT-40S and RITM-200: the floating ones
Operating and under constructionThe Akademik Lomonosov has operated since 2020 with two 35 MWe naval reactors; the RITM-200 succeeds them on barges and on land.
The Akademik Lomonosov is a barge moored at Pevek, in the Russian Arctic, with two KLT-40S reactors derived from the nuclear icebreakers. It has delivered 70 MWe and heat to the town since May 2020 and is, strictly speaking, the world's first commercial SMR.
Its successor is the RITM-200, a 55 MWe integral PWR that already powers the Arktika-class icebreakers. In its floating version, four barges for the Baimsky mine in Chukotka are under construction, and the land-based RITM-200N is being built in Yakutia for 2028.
