It is the most powerful research reactor in Greece, of the 2 currently operating. It was the first research reactor in Greece to go critical and is still operating 65 years later. It is one of 48 pool-type reactors operating worldwide, spread across 28 countries. Its declared uses include isotope production, neutron scattering, teaching and activation analysis.
